The initial support mechanisms provided to the village pre-school by the Sukarema government included payments for teaching staff (who had previously volunteered their time) and the provision of learning materials for the school’s young students. By all accounts, simple interventions such as these have made a significant difference to the community’s engagement in pre-school education.

However, for government and pre-school representatives, the support does not stop there. The pre-school has become the location for integrated health service provision, due to its strategic location and ongoing participation by the village’s mothers and their children. The government also plans to develop skills and capacity building programs, aimed at mothers who spend time at the facility each day as they wait for their children to finish school.
